ELI RUN
written for me by Tony Di Bartolo, my Dad

Sung to "Froggy went a Courting"

Stolen as a puppy, it planted a seed
His wanderlust it grew like a weed

Uh Huh Uh Huh

The Houdini of dogs, oh Lord it's true
How can we stop this Aussie blue

Uh Huh Uh Huh

Put him out back, the fence he'll climb
"Can't hold me the world is mine"

Uh Huh Uh Huh

In the front yard, he hits the gate
Gone in a flash he won't hesitate

Uh Huh Uh Huh

Eli's running, look at him stride
Old Trapper dog right by his side

Uh Huh Uh Huh

Up to the corner, down to the wood
River on his mind he's up to no good

Uh Huh Uh Huh

Burrs in his fur, a combing chore
Life with this Aussie's never a bore

Uh Huh Uh Huh

Coming back home, all wet and muddy
Feet on my chest, he's your buddy

Uh Huh Uh Huh

Authors Note: When Eli was about 7 weeks old and playing in the backyard with his littermates, some high school boys reached over the fence and stole him. Probably attracted by his extreme blue eyes and thinking he would make a nice present to impress a girl, they carried him away. He was found all the way across town by an active rail line. His rear leg was injured and he was scuffed up a bit, but thankfully he was still his joyful self.

Agility training has aided his escape aptitude, as he is able to walk a six inch rock wall up and over the rear fence. He has also learned that if he shoulders things (such as the front gate) hard enough, he can get them to open up. (Thank you, Stella.) And of course, Eli's  favorite place is the river, located about a quarter mile from our house.
