I AM NEUTERED. I AM LOVED!
By Eli

I bet you thought a handsome intelligent blue eyed lover boy Aussie like me would make a great stud dog! Think again. My people cared for me enough to have me neutered. There are a lot of myths out there about neutering that I want to dispel right now.

1: I am now putting on weight, because I have been neutered.

Putting on weight is simply taking in more calories that are burned. I am an active dog. My people see to it that I get plenty of exercise. They do agility and herding with me, take me on walks and to go swimming. I get a lot of playtime, also. The one thing that they do not do is over feed me. I am still the same lean pup I always was; and I still get to enjoy a lot of yummy treats!

2: Neutering has changed my personality.

This one is partly true. The myth is that personalities are detrimented. Though my personality has changed a bit; it has changed it for the better rather than for the worse. Many people think that I may have become less caring, lazy in nature, and maybe even inattentive. The exact opposite is true. Because I was neutered at relatively early age, I am less easily distracted with harmone driven instincts. I enjoy my activities without stopping to check out a female or trying to assert my masculinity with every male that comes along. Not only do I enjoy my people more than ever, but other dogs don't see me as a threat so I get to enjoy them, also!

3: If I were bred my family could have another dog just like me.

Nothing could be further from the truth! Each parent contributes 50% of the genetic material in each puppy. There can never be another me!

In fact, neutering me was the best thing my human people have ever done for me.

Because I have been neutered, I will live a longer, healthier life! I will never ever get testicular cancer and I am unlikely to develop perianal tumors, hernias, and prostate problems. I will never take off following the odor of a female in heat. My desire to roam has been greatly reduced, so I am less likely to be hit by a car. I also am far less likely to have to see a vet because of a dogfight.

By the way, all of my littermates were neutered, even Sammy, the only girl. She will live a longer and healthier life also! Because she was spayed, she will never get ovarian cancer, uterine cancer or uterine infections. She is also far less likely to get breast cancer. Her people never have to worry about her staining the carpet, a yard full of hormone driven males, or an unwanted pregnancy.

None of us will ever suffer from Canine Brucellosis or forms of venereal disease dogs can get. We will not contribute to the overpopulation of puppies in the world, and the need for their euthanasia at many of the kill shelters.

I am at peace with the world. My people love me!
